Brush up on daily denture care

Good oral hygiene is a must for everyone but especially for those who wear dentures. Regular brushing and flossing will help keep natural bacteria at bay for those with natural teeth, but for anyone wearing dentures they need to be aware that the bacteria can get underneath the denture itself and cause problems with the mouth and gums.

Getting into a good cleaning routine with your denture will help prevent any mouth infections and protect your investment.

Dentures should be cleaned using a moist denture brush and a denture cleaner, ideally after every meal. Always rinse the denture with warm water, never hot as this can warp the denture. When your denture is not being worn leave it soaking in cold water as if left to dry out it could become brittle and break. Try to avoid wearing your denture overnight and allow your gums to rest.

We would always advise denture wearers to visit their dentist on a regular basis as they will be able to check the mouth and gums for any infections or soreness which can then be treated immediately.

Dentures aren't cheap so it's really important you protect both your mouth and your wallet by making denture cleaning an essential daily routine.
