Dental implants, a reason to smile

There are many options for replacing missing teeth, but when looking to replace several or a complete set the two main choices are dentures and dental implants. Thousands of people in the UK wear dentures with no problems and are very happy with them, but dental implants are now becoming increasingly more popular. When you look at this information on dental implants it's easy to see why they are a more attractive option for replacing teeth:

·They are fixed in place so do not need to be taken out to be cleaned

·More secure than dentures. This means you can eat any types of food without the risk of your teeth falling out. Sporting activities can also be enjoyed without the risk of losing your teeth

·Dental implants do not require adjacent teeth to be ground down as they are with a tooth-supported bridge which means more of your own teeth are left intact

·Dental implants look and feel just like natural teeth

·A full upper denture covers your palette and reduces your sense of taste. With dental implants you can still taste and enjoy all the foods you did before losing your teeth

·Dental implants can last a lifetime depending on how well you look after them

·Dental implants stimulate bone growth and production

Cosmetic dental work on the NHS genlraely doesn't extend beyond repairing existing teeth. I'm not sure what specific work is covered but it would only be considered if the problem was affecting you in a physical way (difficulties eating, speaking, etc.).For those under 18 the NHS are usually much more willing to correct problems for free, but again I'm not sure how far this extends to cosmetic work.References : Trying to get my teeth re-aligned due to a bite issue (non-cosmetic) but currently being told it's not serious enough and will cost me a33000
