Dentures-Price is not the only consideration

Many people shop around when it comes to having new dentures fitted, and quite often they will choose the cheapest option available, but is it?

The reason I ask this is because I have seen so many people here at The Smile Centre who are unhappy with the dentures they have had fitted somewhere else and want them replacing. This hardly makes them cheap when you have to pay out for another set does it?

There are many other considerations to bear in mind when choosing someone to make and fit new dentures for you:

  • Who is best qualified - A registered dentist may be able to offer you dentures but this is not their area of expertise. However a clinical dental technician, known as a CDT does specialise in dentures and is a registered Dental Care Professional. They are trained and fully qualified to offer a range of denture services direct to patients. They must be registered with the General Dental Council (GDC) to be able to work in the UK. Patients can be reassured by this that they are meeting the standards that the GDC set.

  • Mass produced or individually made - Think of it as buying a suit, you can pick one up off the rail which may look ok but the fit will never be as good as a suit that is handmade for you. Poorly fitted mass produced dentures (false teeth) leave the wearer with incorrect bite and a lack of lip and facial support. Teeth will all be the same colour and the gums too pink. Individually made handcrafted dentures from The Smile Centre UK look so natural nobody would guess they weren't your natural teeth. We use the latest technology to register the best possible bite. We also take care to ensure the wearer has the correct lip and facial support. Each tooth is hand crafted allowing us to create individual characterisations like fine hair line cracks and differences in colour. We use up to 5 different shades per tooth to create natural dentition. Each tooth is positioned differently within the gum so that light is reflected at different angles when smiling, creating a brighter and more natural smile.

  • Results of previous work - Ask to see photos or videos of their previous customers wearing their dentures along with testimonial letters. Any CDT that is proud of his work will be only too happy to show you these.

Word of warning, never try and negotiate with a dentist as this video shows.
