Immediate dentures

By TheSmileCentre @ Jan 24, 2012 in Dentures

One of the first questions many people ask The Smile Centre UK when they are looking at getting dentures for the first time is: 'how long will it take before I get my dentures fitted'? Quite naturally they are concerned about having no teeth while their dentures are being made.

When teeth have been extracted it is very important to let the structure of your gums and surrounding tissues heal properly before your dentures are made. The healing time can vary between patients, some taking a few weeks and others taking a few months.

Most people we speak to do not want to be without teeth for any period of time which is why we can offer them immediate dentures.

These are not your final dentures that you will wear after the healing has taken place, but immediate dentures can be worn straight away after teeth have been extracted which has the obvious benefits:

·They allow you to eat solid foods

·They protect the healing gum tissue

·They prevent the face from looking sunken. Teeth support the cheek tissues, without teeth the face can appear caved in. Immediate dentures assume the role of the missing teeth which improves your appearance

·You will find it easier to speak than you would having no teeth

Please be aware, immediate dentures are not going to fit as well as your permanent dentures that are being made. However, they will provide a good temporary solution which will allow you to resume normal daily functions such as eating and speaking without the embarrassment of having no teeth.
