Replacing your dentures

When we age many things change about us such as our bodies. Some people lose weight, others put it on. Our faces change and unfortunately wrinkles are inevitable the older we get. But what many denture wearers don't realise is how their mouths change.

With age the gum ridges in our mouth can shrink and when this happens your dentures will become loose. If an item of clothing no longer fitted you would replace it, yet many people never consider replacing their dentures.

Dentures are worn every day and if they no longer fit correctly they won't function correctly either which means you will have problems eating. Loose dentures are also at risk of coming out when you least expect it so not a real confidence booster either.

Apart from how they will look, which by the way will not be great, loose dentures will cause sore spots in the mouth which are painful.

How often you will need to replace your dentures depends on how you look after them. Everyone is different but on average dentures last for about 5 years.

If your dentures don't feel comfortable or they are loose you should get them checked out.
