Dental Anxiety
A fear of the dentist or anything to do with dental treatment is very common and affects thousands of people. Dental anxiety can range from being slightly nervous to a fear that’s so bad it prevents you from having important treatment done.
A lot of dental fears stem from past unpleasant experiences with the dentist, maybe as a child. Many others though are simply a fear of the unknown. Common dental fears include;
- Being scared of what the dentist will say about my teeth
- The dentists chair
- Being frightened that treatment will be painful.
- Fear of dental injections and needles.
- Feeling out of control.
- Choking
- The noise and smell of the Dentist
- Dental instruments
Overcoming Your Fears
Here at The Smile Centre UK we try and make sure every patient that visits us feels as comfortable and relaxed as possible. This all begins the very first time we meet a new patient.
Anyone that is new to The Smile Centre UK will have either found us online, or will have been recommended to use us by friends or family. The first thing we need to do is build up the relationship and the trust.
This all starts from the moment you walk through the door where a warm welcome awaits you. Then the initial consultation with myself, Barrie Semp Dip Cdt RCS (Eng), Clinical Dental Technician (denturist). Not only will I be discussing your dental/medical history, treatment options etc but also any fears, worries or concerns you may have.
You should never be embarrassed about having dental fears, dental professionals see this many times. But the better your relationship is with your dentist the easier it will be. This is why Smile Centre UK’s customers are not one off’s, they are customers for life.
