Periodontics (Periodontal treatment)
– Gum Disease Treatment
Periodontics is the part of dentistry that focuses on gum disease. If gum disease is left untreated you are at risk of losing some or possibly all of your teeth.
The Smile Centre UK has a qualified Periodontist with 3 years of specialty training in diagnosing, preventing and treating gum disease. Help from a Periodontist may be necessary in cases of:
- Severe gum disease.
- Patients with a more complicated medical history including gum disease caused by Diabetes
- Root surface debridement – when surgery is required to open the gums in order to access the underlying tooth or bone structure.
- Gingivoplasty – problematic areas of your gum are removed and the remaining gum is reshaped within the mouth so that there are no gaps between the tooth and gum. This can help to prevent further infections and make the area easier to clean as well as being aesthetically pleasing.
Periodontal treatment is available at The Smile Centre UK dental surgery.
