Orthodontics

Orthodontics is the part of dentistry that corrects jaw and tooth positioning in order to make the teeth function better for the patient, and to give them a more pleasing appearance.

Teeth that are crooked, do not fit together properly or are overcrowded are harder to keep clean. This makes them more at risk of tooth decay or periodontal disease. They cause extra strain on the chewing muscles which can lead to headaches, Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMJ syndrome) and pains in the neck, ears, shoulder and back.

Qualified Orthodontist

Not every qualified dentist is trained in orthodontics. Once a dentist is qualified they must then undergo further training and pass examinations in orthodontics. Only when this has been achieved will the dentist become an orthodontist.
