Immediate Dentures

Immediate dentures are ready to wear on the same day. They have a softer pallet to allow the gum tissue to heal once your teeth have been taken out. This prevents you from having to spend any time without  teeth.

The Process

Before your teeth are extracted by our dentist, impressions are taken by our clinical dental technician and a custom set of  dentures are then created. This set of dentures will be fitted once the teeth have been extracted.

Aftercare

For the first 24 hours, you must not remove the denture. When they are inserted, they act almost like a plaster and will help to control the bleeding and actually cause little discomfort. Obviously some swelling will occur after your teeth are extracted and in order to keep the swelling to a minimum you can hold an ice pack to your mouth.

After the first day you should remove them 4 or 5 times a day and rinse your mouth with warm salt water. If you want to you can sleep with the dentures in, however, it is important to keep the dentures as clean as possible this will reduce the risk of you developing any complications.

This healing process can take several months and you may need to return to the Clinical Dental Technician for a temporary denture reline. This ensures the dentures continue to fit properly. Once healing is complete, your Clinical Dental Technician will replace the immediate dentures with your new set of permanent dentures.
