Botulinium Toxin® Injections - FAQs

No, if you are breastfeeding or pregnant, Botulinium Toxin® (commonly known as Botox®) cannot be used. Anyone that has a neurological disease should not use Botulinium Toxin® either. Patients that are at risk of bleeding should take medical advice before considering Botulinium Toxin® as there is an increased risk of bruising post procedure. These include people who have blood clotting disorders such as Haemophilia, and those who take anticoagulant medicines such as Warfarin, Heparin, Aspirin and Anti-Inflammatory medicines.

The most common side effect is bruising but this is only temporary. Eyelid drooping is another side effect but not very common and again is only a temporary thing. It is caused by migration of the Botulinium Toxin® which is why the treated area should not be rubbed for twelve hours after the injection and why we advise patients not to lie down for three or four hours. Some patients say they have headaches following treatment but again they are only temporary.
